Paradise Lost OOTY

On Saturday I went to Ooty, once the summer capital of the British for the Madras presidency. But recently the climate in this summer heaven has changed drastically. Influx of tourists to this small hill station has aided to this drastic change. Economic boom in India has given people more income and the Indians are traveling like never before in history. Vehicles coming to Ooty have also increased.

The government has no control over the influx of the tourists nor they are interested in providing infrastructure facilities. Currently, during the peak season time there is a road project going on near the main bus stop. This add to the chaos that already prevails. Commuting in the area around racecourse, market, Charingcross and the arterial roads have become a nightmare.

Though there are police all around the place manning the traffic, lack of infrastructure and sometimes irresponsible tourists add to the chaos. Ooty doesn't allow much scope for development. Authorities should come up with solid plans to achieve a strategy from the lessons learnt now. Limiting the number of tourists and adopting more affordable public transport system would help the situation.

Paradise lost can be brought back to its past glory if only the people and the government act together or it will be lost forever.
