Laila Oh Laila

Wonderful beginning for the day. My day started with a walk  through a drizzle to the bus stand "wow" I felt great .This doesn't happen often. Laila(cyclone) has brought cheers to few places and chaos to many. In my life it had a pleasant effect as it changed the climate of Bangalore, to be felt like a paradise.
Andhra Pradesh has been effected by this Laila. Many trains and even flights were cancelled because of the damage caused to the Railway line and poor visibility. It has completely cutoff Chennai from other parts of India. Nice to have rains in summer but when it becomes a problem to our daily routines then it's a problem.

Paradise Lost OOTY

On Saturday I went to Ooty, once the summer capital of the British for the Madras presidency. But recently the climate in this summer heaven has changed drastically. Influx of tourists to this small hill station has aided to this drastic change. Economic boom in India has given people more income and the Indians are traveling like never before in history. Vehicles coming to Ooty have also increased.

The government has no control over the influx of the tourists nor they are interested in providing infrastructure facilities. Currently, during the peak season time there is a road project going on near the main bus stop. This add to the chaos that already prevails. Commuting in the area around racecourse, market, Charingcross and the arterial roads have become a nightmare.

Though there are police all around the place manning the traffic, lack of infrastructure and sometimes irresponsible tourists add to the chaos. Ooty doesn't allow much scope for development. Authorities should come up with solid plans to achieve a strategy from the lessons learnt now. Limiting the number of tourists and adopting more affordable public transport system would help the situation.

Paradise lost can be brought back to its past glory if only the people and the government act together or it will be lost forever.

IPL and Hockey

IPL has seen a lot of controversy this year. A minister resigned because of his interests in IPL. Lalit Modi IPL's commissioner is in trouble and so on. All these untoward events happened this season especially after the auction of two IPL teams. Numbers involved in this process was staggering, considering it's a sports team. If it is not cricket, then nobody would have spent a paisa, is a open secret. Lalit Modi has attracted attention not because he is a commissioner of a sporting body. But controller of money and naturally the power it buys.
Looking back in time the Indian hockey team had to fight for it's salary and sponsorship. Hockey, the official national game of India is in the drain. Future of the game in India in dark. Professional body to govern the sport in India is not good.
Infrastructure for hockey in India is not up to international standards. We can divert the money from cricket to promote all other games. This would help in reducing the hype about cricket and development of other sports. Well, it happens only in my dreams. Cricket is one of the drugs, for people given by politicians and business people.
